Capacity development

Capacity development – “The process through which individuals, organizations and societies obtain and maintain the capabilities to set and achieve their own objectives over time.” UNDP

Facilitating integrated learning processes and developing networks are Petrad’s main contribution to capacity development. Learning processes are developed based on needs assessments conducted in collaboration with Petrad’s partners. These learning processes can take place in the collaborating partner’s own work environment, such as on-the-job training facilitated by resident enablers/mentors, through tailor-made workshops, or as a formal training programmes. Learning processes can also be enhanced through regional knowledge-sharing arenas.

Petrad’s expertise and experience within these areas are in continuous development in close collaboration with our partners. Petrad bases its work on its core values: QUALITY – CARE – SHARE. Petrad aims for excellence.

Petrad’s activities and services

Petrad’s services and activities are most often a part of Norway’s experience-sharing efforts, based on bilateral country programmes. For countries that do not have a bilateral programme with Norway, Petrad can also deliver services and activities directly.

Petrad can provide and/or facilitate the following:

Assessments and planning

  • Fact finding missions
  • Functional and training needs assessments at all levels in the petroleum sector (setting baseline)
  • Mapping relevant international development cooperation efforts
  • Formulate long-term cooperation programmes

Resident coordinators and mentors

A resident coordinator and mentor will contribute to ensuring integrated learning processes, organisational development and knowledge sharing, to develop and strengthen petroleum policy and resource management in a cooperation country.

Training programmes

Since 1989, Petrad has collaborated with close to 20,000 participants to develop valuable knowledge and experience for nations developing their energy resources. The Petrad Academy offers training programmes based on this accumulated experience and knowledge. Petrad offers scheduled training programmes and tailor-made programmes, along with its two flagship 8-week training programmes on “Petroleum policy and resource management” and “Petroleum development and operation”.

Facilitating delegation visits

Petrad facilitates tailor-made delegation visits to Norway. Such delegation programmes may include meetings with Norwegian petroleum authorities, site visits, and meetings on education, technology and local industry development.

Networking

Networking is embedded in all Petrad’s activities. Over the years, we have established a worldwide network. This network is of significant value to Petrad in developing activities and services. For programme participants, the network represents an important knowledge-sharing and development arena providing national, regional and international experiences facilitated by Petrad. Our network consists of participants from Petrad’s training programmes, lecturers, resource partners and experts.

Availability and funding

If you require funding from the Norwegian government, Petrad’s services and activities are only available through development cooperation programmes. In order to initiate such a programme, Norwegian authorities need to be contacted by national officials through the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) or Norwegian embassies.

If you do not require funding from the Norwegian government, you can contact Petrad directly.
